BLUF: The to-do list that keeps up with a parent's brain. Type or say it in plain English and it lands on the right day, in the right list.
- Fridge rating
- Setup time
- A whole weekend: a couple of days to build the full Claude, Todoist and Notion brain dump setup. Todoist on its own is much quicker to start.
- The short version
- A to-do list app that understands how people talk
- Type "pick up cleats Thursday at 4" and it sets the task, the day and the reminder for you.
- It runs on your phone, computer and tablet, and everything stays in sync.
- Why it earned a spot
- Brain to list in seconds
- Get it out of your head before it's gone, in the car line, at practice, mid-dinner.
- Repeats that match family life
- "Every other Friday," "first Monday of the month," "every school day." It handles the odd schedules custody and school calendars throw at you.
- Lists by place and energy
- Tag tasks @errands, @home or @phone, plus quick versus deep work, then see only what fits where you are and how much you've got left.
- Big jobs, broken down
- Turn "plan the birthday party" into small steps, so the first one is easy enough to actually start.
- Plays well with AI
- Connect it to an AI assistant like Claude, ramble out everything on your mind, and the tasks get filed with dates and labels for you.
The sticky note
- The free plan fills up fast
It caps you at five projects, and the calendar view and extra reminders need Pro.
- It's your list, not the family's
You can share projects, but it's not a family calendar the kids will glance at on the fridge.
- Easy to over-build
Labels, filters and projects are addictive. Start with a few, or you'll spend more time organizing than doing.
- What it costs
- Free plan for up to five projects
- Pro is $5/month billed yearly, or $7 month to month
- Check Todoist's pricing page before you buy.
- Kid verdict
- This one's for the parents. The kids don't use it.

Dad's Take
On its own, Todoist is a solid to-do list. Where it really shines for me is working alongside Claude and Notion: I ramble out everything on my mind, the to-dos land in Todoist with dates, and the ideas land in Notion. The three tools working together are great.
